MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR / HEAD, (ORIC)
I am honoured to address you as the Director/Head of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) at GNIES, and I am excited to share our collective vision for the future of research and innovation at our esteemed institution.
Our objectives at the ORIC align seamlessly with the broader vision of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), focusing on elevating research as a key driver for sustainable economic growth and the development of a knowledge economy. As we embark on this journey, it is imperative that we, as a community, fully embrace and actively contribute to the realization of these objectives.
THE OBJECTIVES OF ORIC
The objectives of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) at Ghazi National Institute of Engineering and Sciences (GNIES) in Dera Ghazi Khan align with the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) broader vision of promoting research as a priority for sustainable economic growth and the development of a knowledge economy. The specific objectives for ORIC at GNIES are as follows:
Promote a Culture of Research:
a) Foster a research-oriented culture within GNIES by encouraging faculty, researchers, and students to actively engage in research activities.
b) Create awareness and understanding of the importance of research for academic and economic advancement.
Facilitate Research Proposal Development:
a) Provide support and guidance to researchers in developing high-quality research proposals.
b) Assist in identifying funding opportunities and preparing competitive grant applications to secure research funding.
Coordinate Research Activities:
a) Act as a central point for coordinating and overseeing all research activities within GNIES.
b) Facilitate collaboration and interdisciplinary research initiatives among faculty members and departments.
Ensure Ethical Research Practices:
a) Establish and enforce ethical standards for research, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and regulations.
b) Provide training and resources to researchers on ethical considerations in research.
Enhance Research Infrastructure:
a) Identify and address the infrastructure needs of researchers to ensure they have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
b) Collaborate with relevant departments to upgrade and maintain research infrastructure.
Support Technology Transfer and Commercialization:
a) Facilitate the transfer of technology and knowledge from academia to industry.
b) Promote collaboration between researchers and industry partners to commercialize research outcomes.
Monitor and Evaluate Research Performance:
a) Develop mechanisms to monitor and assess the impact and quality of research outputs.
b) Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of research initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly.
Promote Innovation and Entrepreneurship:
a) Encourage the development of innovative solutions and products stemming from research activities.
b) Support the entrepreneurial spirit among researchers and students, fostering the creation of startups and spin-off companies.
Strengthen Industry-Academia Linkages:
a) Forge strong partnerships with industries, fostering collaboration on research projects and initiatives.
b) Identify opportunities for joint ventures, internships, and collaborative research with the corporate sector.
Disseminate Research Findings:
a) Facilitate the dissemination of research findings through publications, conferences, and other knowledge-sharing platforms.
b) Encourage researchers to contribute to the academic community and broader society through the sharing of knowledge.
By pursuing these objectives, the ORIC at GNIES will play a pivotal role in advancing the institution’s research agenda and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
